FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Should I Take a Level 1 or Level 2 Class?

If you are brand new to the game or haven't played in a very long time, we recommend Level 1.0. We recommend Level 2.0 if you have some experience and have played on the course with some regularity.

Where Do BGA Classes Meet?

BGA classes utilize the entire Pine Ridge facility, but most classes meet in the BGA Practice Area (look for the big, blue structure on the far right of the range.). Plan on arriving at least 5 minutes prior to your class. You want to be warmed up and ready to go physically as well as mentally. Give yourself a few minutes to put your day behind you and get into the proper frame of mind.

Should I Take a Group Class or Private Lessons?

Your schedule, preference for how much attention you need and the cost are the main factors for you to consider. If you are in a rut or trying to break a bad habit, we recommend private lessons. Learn more about private instruction with our LPGA, PGA and USGTF instructors.

Please make sure to provide up to date contact information when you register for instruction. If light rain, we conduct classes under the BGA covered area. Sometimes severe weather pops up and we do not have time to alert everyone-in that case please use your best judgement. We do not teach golf in electrical storms. Text 443-414-2288- Coach J will do her best to assist you.

What Should I wear?

Dress comfortably. We do not have a dress code at Pine Ridge but there are many golf facilities in our area that do. Get into the habit of checking prior to playing to avoid any issues with attire. Golf shoes, they are helpful but you can play in flat soled athletic shoes. Wearing a golf glove on your lead hand (the one closest to the hole) will help with your grip, and reduce the chance of getting blisters. Gloves usually cost between $15.00 and $20.00 and are a worthwhile investment. Check the selection of golf shoes and gloves in our Pro Shops.

What’s The Best Way to Begin Playing On The Course?

Sign up for a class! Small group instruction is usually best. The most important thing in the beginning is to build a solid fundamental foundation. Our instructors will help you build your foundation and keep you encouraged so you can quickly develop your skills as a golfer.

How Long Before I Can Play On My Own?

There are some variables but if you keep a positive attitude, follow your instructor’s advice, and take some time to practice each week you should be able to get out and play with friends after 8 hours of group classes that include instruction in basic golf etiquette and speed of play. This varies from player to player.

What Should I Do About Equipment?

The pro shop at Pine Ridge is fully stocked with golf clubs, bags, shoes, gloves and clothing. All of the merchandise is competitively priced, and discounts are available to BGA Students. There are also demo clubs available for you to ‘test drive’ on the course, and our golf professionals will be sure you receive clubs that are properly fitted for you.
